Back in February I had the chance to shadow the Town Clerk at Faversham Town Council for my work experience. It was a really interesting and fulfilling experience, in which I got to gain an understanding of the wide range of functions that take place from Faversham Town Council.
I spent two days at the offices in Faversham and had the chance to attend a Full Town Council Meeting, where I was allowed to take the Minutes for the meeting alongside Louise Bareham (Town Clerk). One of my tasks for the following day was producing a digital copy of the minutes and meant that I can now see my work on the Town Council website, which feels like a great achievement. During my time, I also got to sit in on meetings with other councillors regarding a wide range of topics, from sports to roads to allotments. The range of tasks the Town Council performs is incredible and really made me consider working in a Town Council office in the future. By the end of my two days at the Town Council I wished that I could have stayed for longer because there was so much more to learn. I urge that if people do have an interest in local politics, that the Town Council is a great place to look for work experience and might just help you to know what might be best for you.
